Iris Van Herpen exhibition :
Sculpting the senses

Suspended and magical moment during my visit to the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris in February 2024. It had been a very long time since I had been blown away by something. With an air of Artificial Intelligence and the appetite for ultra-speed, designer Iris Van Herpen exposes her creative approach to slow fashion, all her meticulous work and the thoughtful design of each model. Her creations are the intersection of various fields such as Art, Crafts, dance, architecture, biology and technology. Iris Van Herpen transgresses conventional norms of clothing by surprising us and imagining the extraordinary : voluptuous dresses, with movement, pleats, print, embroidery, metal incerations, transparency, layering … Her dresses are true sculptures and works of art that come to life once worn. Iris Van Herpen’s work questions the place of the body in space, its relationship to movement, transformation and its environment.

“I don’t just look at the body, I also look at the space around the body, like a dancer would. My creations express femininity, volume, lightness and movement in wonderful reality experiences.”

She is a remarkable and very surprising female artist of my generation - she is 40 years old- of great inspiration for us Designers.
